Achondrite (diogenite)

One single stone bought in Erfoud (Morocco) in June 2006.

Mode : 96% pigeonite, 2% chromite, altered troilite, traces of diopside and interstitial glass.

Nearly complete fusion crust slightly weathered on one side. Inside orange colour due to weathering. Millimetric (up to nearly centimetric) green pyroxene clasts about 60 vol % within brecciated matrix of the same material.

Mineralogy :
Pigeonite : En69 Fs27 Wo4, FeO/MnO = 30, Mg# 0.72
Cpx : En44 Fs12 Wo43, Mg# 79
Chromite :Mg00.2Fe0.9Al0.6Cr1.3O4
Glass : SiO2 70%, Al2O3 14%, K2O 7%

Log X = 2.94 (10-9 m3/kg)
