Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)
History: Purchased Algeria 2009 by PThomas.
Physical characteristics: One stone weighing 478 g with a compact-looking aspect. Some unusual parallels crack and flattened chondrules, both in the same direction.
Petrography: (N. Chaumard and B. Devouard, UBP) Type I chondrules are dominant. Chondrule sizes range from ~150 mm to 1.6 mm. Fe-diffusion at borders in olivine grains in type I chondrule is well fine. CAIs are scares. Matrix have an unusual recrystallized speckled pattern, composed by grains up to 5–12 mm long of fayalite and feldspar. Matrix contains few unequilibrated olivine monocrystals.
Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean olivine in matrice, Fa55.8+4.2. Type I chondrules olivine and low-Ca pyroxene are Fa3.8+3.1 and Fs1.7+1.0, respectively. Olivine in type II chondrule, Fa26.5+1.2.
